SCALE: Opening Doors to Treatment for the Uninsured
The SCALE Program is one of a number of administrative measures the ADAMHS Board of Cuyahoga County is taking to ensure the continuation of community mental health and substance abuse treatment services. After conducting a year-long pilot program to evaluate a centralized intake process, the ADAMHS Board created SCALE to offer a single point of entry to Cuyahoga's community behavioral healthcare system, expedite the enrollment process and reduce the waiting period between a consumer's assessment and his or her engagement with treatment.
The ADAMHS Board has contracted with one of its providers, Connections, to implement the program which begins January 3, 2011.

IMPORTANT NOTICE ABOUT SCALE:
The SCALE Mental Health Centralized Assessment for uninsured individuals in a community setting is currently at capacity. Due to severe funding cuts, new assessment appointments will not be available until further notice. The exact date of available capacity is not known at this time; however the expectation is that capacity may begin to be available after January 2012.
The SCALE program will continue to screen individuals by phone for program eligibility. Individuals who are found to be not eligible for the SCALE program (Level 1 and Level 2) will be referred to community partners.
Individuals who are likely to be eligible for the program (Level 3, 4, and 5) will be given the option of leaving contact information on a waiting list for an assessment appointment. When capacity is again available, individuals on this list will be called and given an appointment for an assessment.
Individuals who qualify for other services (such as vocational programs or specialized homeless services) will be referred to the appropriate programs.
Individuals experiencing an acute behavioral health emergency will be referred to the Mobile Crisis Team or to the nearest emergency room.
